There are several versions of the origin of the word and dish “soup”. One of them says that during the times of Ancient Egypt, one of the pharaoh’s slaves decided to cook his own lunch in a small pot. The dish consisted of boiling water, onions and spices. The slave was very hungry, so he stole a chicken from his owner and hid it in a pot. The loss, of course, was found, but the pharaoh liked the smell and taste of the new dish, and he appointed the slave not just a servant, but his cook.
